Visit by Nursing Students of PSG College of Nursing

On 11th Dec 2009, as part of their curriculum to learn about alternate therapy systems, 2 staffs and 25 M.Sc. (Nursing) first year students from P.S.G. College of Nursing, Coimbatore (http://www.psgnursing.org/) visited Thirumoolar Varmam Research and Therapy Centre, Coimbatore (Unit of Arts Research Institute).

Mr. Suresh Manoharan, Secretary / Treasurer, Arts Research Institute, greeted the staffs and students. He gave details about the trust, the therapy centres run by the trust and its activities. Then, Dr. Abdul Azees, M.D.(Siddha), Research & Medical officer, gave a presentation about the basic concepts of varmam, how it currently in varmam therapy and what are the types of diseases that are handled in our therapy centres. At the end of the presentation, Dr.N.Shunmugom, Ph.D., Honorary Advisor, joined for interactive question and answer session with the students. They also heard the speech of Dr.Lakshmi, M.B.B.S., Singapore, sharing her experience in application of varmam therapy for her patients at Singapore.

Later, the students saw how varmam therapy was applied to the patients by the volunteers and assistants in the presence of the medical professionals and how the treatment procedure is scientifically documented. They interacted with the patients who were receiving varmam therapy at our centre.

At the end of the session, Dr. N.Shunmugom, Ph.D., practically demonstrated to the students how disease is diagnosed by reading pulse.

Later Mr. Suresh Manoharan explained them about on-the-job training program, namely Trainee Medical Nurse, offered to the nursing graduates by ARI for learning about varmam and its practical application to the patients.

Finally the session concluded when PSG Nursing Staff members thanked ARI and its members for giving opportunity for them to know about varmam as an alternate therapy system.
